Quilt of Belonging

The Quilt of Belonging is a collaborative work of art whose mission is to recognize Canada’s diversity, celebrate our common humanity and promote harmony and compassion among people. The Quilt is a 36 m. (120 ft.) long collaborative textile art project which is a rich portrait of the human family. Its 263 blocks portray the cultural legacies of the First Peoples in Canada and every nation of the world.

Esther Bryan, the visionary force behind the Quilt, had a strong sense of family and community values. Her boundless energy mobilized thousands of volunteers to take part in an incredible journey – an invitation for all cultures to celebrate their common humanity and find their unique place in the Canadian mosaic.

We are creating a new home for the Quilt of Belonging at the TriSisters Art House in St. Jacobs. We are honoured to once again give all Canadians the opportunity to experience the Quilt as we resume its travels across our great nation and around the world. We believe Canada’s greatest strength lies in our diversity.

“I saw the need of each person to be included, to be seen and to be heard.” Esther Bryan
